TROY — A distinctive bridal gown on display at Somerset Collection as part of a free special exhibit was stolen just after closing time March 8.
Police said a woman — described as white, about 25 years old, 5 feet 6 inches tall, with dark hair and a thin build and wearing glasses and a dark coat — walked up to the stage at the North Grand Court and stole the headpiece and gown worn by actress Teri Polo as Rosa del Valle in the ’93 movie “House of Spirits.” The woman took the clothing off the mannequin and fled with a man to the first-level parking structure.
The gown was part of the “Hollywood Brides Unveiled” exhibit at Somerset Collection as part of a bridal fashion show event.
The stolen gown is a ‘20s-style pale cream silk wedding dress with a floral design, silk and gold floss thread, a cream lace bodice, tulle overlay, and orange blossoms and lilies on the bottom.
The male suspect is described as white, 25, with dark, collar-length hair and a thin build. He was wearing a white T-shirt, a dark coat and a dark hat with a brim. Police believe the suspects fled the area in a light-colored Toyota Sienna minivan. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Troy police at (248) 524-3477.
