Farmington Hills Harrison sophomore Kevin Beazley was runner-up in his Division 2 district and advanced to the Dexter High regional, which gets under way Feb. 20.

Kevin Beazley
• School: Farmington Hills Harrison
• Grade: sophomore
•Weight class: 160 pounds
• Record: 45-4
• Finished fourth in 2009-10 Oakland County tournament at 160
• Qualified for 2008-09 Division 2 state final at 130
• 2009-10 Division 2 district runner-up

Favorite part of competing as an individual:
“You get to focus on just your matches (and) get your head ready,” Beazley said. “You don’t have to think about the team score or getting the pin; you just focus on you.”

What you’ve done different competing this year:
“I’ve started to develop confidence in my leg attacks,” he said. “Last year, I wasn’t as confident, and over the summer, I worked on attacking the legs and it really paid off.”

Coach’s outlook:
“He’s just very knowledgeable, loves the sport and plans on wrestling in college,” Harrison coach Jim Stuef said of Beazley. “And he’s tough. He’s not going to tap out or back down from people. He’s going to give them a heck of a match regardless, even if it’s a senior that is supposedly the No. 1 in the state.”
