Sixteen Warren, Center Line wrestlers take home All-County honors

Wrestling teams from the Warren Weekly coverage area had 16 grapplers take home All-County honors Dec. 19 at Grosse Pointe North.
Anchor Bay won the county championship with 194.5 points; Roseville High’s 181.5 points was good for second.
Warren Woods Tower led the local charge in the 34-team field with 98 points and a 12th-place finish.
The Titans had four grapplers earn All-County medals. John Popham placed second at 140 pounds; John Pierce was runner-up at 215; Trevor Dehate placed eighth at 112; and Chris Aiken was fifth at 125.
Center Line High placed 14th overall with 75.5 points and was led by Adam Cross’ second-place finish at 112 and Elvin Laskie’s sixth at 125.
Led by 215-pounder Nate Walsh’s fifth-place finish, and 119-pounder Anthony Nitecki’s and 160-pounder Roderick Hick’s seventh-place finishes, Warren Cousino totaled 57 points and placed 16th.
Warren Lincoln had heavyweight Michael Hooper place second. Hooper and Bryan Jones, who placed seventh at 125, helped the Abes to 50 team points and a 21st-place finish.
Warren Fitzgerald had four All-County honorees, as Steve Orlowski placed fifth at 140; Bradley Lopez was seventh at 171; Clint Doty was seventh at 135; and Mike Doty was eighth at heavyweight. The Spartans placed 23rd as a team with 43 points.
Warren Mott’s Anthony Best placed third at 215 and led his team to a 25th-place finish with 36 points.
The Macomb Area Conference kicks off its league dual meets Jan. 6-7.
Warren Woods Tower competes in a MAC White quad meet with Port Huron High, Utica Eisenhower and Grosse Pointe North at 5 p.m. Jan. 7 at Port Huron.
Mott and Fitzgerald take part in a Blue quad with Cousino and Fraser High at 5 p.m. Jan. 7 at Cousino.
Center Line hosts Lincoln, Clawson High and Madison Heights Madison in a Gold quad at 5 p.m. Jan. 7.
